December 2025: The Women's Institute and Girl Guiding announce bans on trans women from their memberships - what does this mean?

Under pressure from lobbyists threatening legal action, The WI and Guides have just announced the removal of trans women and girls from their memberships, "with regret".

However, the legal case for this is uncertain and the plans for enforcing these bans remain very unclear. I've written about it here.

Read The Good Law Project's article: Excluding trans people won't stop you getting sued here.

Good Practice: Happy Valley Pride's campaign

Happy Valley Pride offer their local shops and businesses in the Calder Valley 'Stand By Your Trans*' posters and stickers to display to show that they are welcoming to trans folks and all LGBTQIA+ people. They wanted to make sure that anyone displaying these had guidance in place to put their support into action, including explaining why and what they stand for when they share these displays. You can read about the campaign here and download the guidance at the button below.

*Note - STAND BY YOUR TRANS was originated by Kate O'Donnel as a campaign for Trans Creative.

REPLAY RECORDING

Trans Allyship Now webinar - April 2025

You'll find links and further information for allies below the video.

Hosted by Jenn Wilson and G Sabini-Roberts, this webinar was recorded live on 18th April, two days after the UK Supreme Court ruling on the meaning of "woman" in the Equalities Act 2010.

The session invited anyone of any gender that wishes to support trans and wider LGBTQIA+ community at this time to come for:

> Myth busting and simplified information what the Supreme Court ruling actually said and what that means

> The reasons trans people are concerned and who else is impacted by this ruling

> Suggestions for how to respond as an ally, now and in the near future

> An opportunity to ask questions without fear of judgement or calling out

Note - the links above are correct at time of publication (20th April 2025).

The ones marked * are probably the most useful for most readers.

I will do my best to update them and to circulate additional links that have been circulated and shared for trans allyship, via email to those that have signed up via this page.

I am doing this on a voluntary basis, because I choose to. If you would like to offer a contribution toward my time and efforts, to help me continue this work and offer subsidised/Pay What Feels Right spaces on my programmes for trans and other marginalised folks, you can do so HERE.

Thank you for your allyship - Jenn x
